Themes Radar

Which market themes are leading now, which names in them are setting up next, and where every industry group ranks.

Where: Themes (sidebar)

Themes Radar shows which market themes and sectors are leading right now, and what is setting up next inside them. (This is about market themes, not the color palette in Settings.)

How it is organized

  • Closest to breaking out - every name still in a base inside a setting-up theme, ranked by how far it has to rise to clear the top of that base. This is the buy list, and it leads the page because it is the only section whose rows you can act on directly. Names that already broke out today are named on the line at the top of the page instead
  • Your themes - any basket you built yourself, in one place whatever the market did to it today. Each row says which of the states below it is in, so you never have to hunt for it. To build one, open a theme, tick the names you want and use Save as list
  • Still setting up - the groups those names came from: the leader has run and the rest of the group has not, the "who moves next" read
  • No setup right now - everything with no trade on it. Either the leader already ran and you are late, or nothing in the group has moved yet and it is worth watching for the first break. Each row says which, and the strongest groups come first. Collapsed by default; click the heading to open it

Reading a theme

Each card opens with the trade in one sentence: which name leads, how far it has run in a month, how many names in the group are still sitting in a base, and which of those is closest to breaking out.

Under it sits the detail. A group Relative Strength rating (1-99, where 80+ marks a leading group), how tightly the names move together, how old the leader's move is, how many members are up this week, and a likely catalyst. Click a card to see every ticker in the basket.

In the buy list above, the bar shows how far a name has travelled toward the top of its base and the dotted line at the right of every bar is that breakout level. A full bar means the name is sitting right at that level, not that it has broken out: a name can hold its pivot for days without the volume that makes it a breakout, and the label beside the bar says which it is. Click a theme name in that list to open the group behind it.

A theme only appears under "Still setting up" if its names actually move together. A basket that trades separately has no reason for the laggards to follow the leader, so it drops into "No setup right now" instead. Open any theme and it tells you which state it is in and why.

To get a daily alert when a name in a theme breaks out of its base, follow the theme from the watchlist and alerts bell.

The Industries tab

The second tab ranks every industry group against every other. A group's rank is the median relative strength of its members, measured over 12 months with the most recent quarter double-weighted, which is the convention IBD and MarketSurge use.

That makes it deliberately slow, so a group can hold a high rank for months after its move ended. Any group still ranked as a leader that is down over both the last month and the last three is marked fading: the rank is being carried by older gains rather than by anything happening now. Sort by 1W or 1M to lead with what is moving today, and the board will remember your choice next time.
